Sorry, but at first I thought, he's a fox. I think it is because of the eyes. I like them! I really love them, they're giving him such a shifty look. Keep this character. But you could add a fox-tail and make another character which is more rabbit-like and make both characters clan-rivals or friends or anything else.
I really like that traditional japanese art style on that, it makes him look authentic! And I totally agree with the ears, they're mostly drawn so cliche. I think, they're looking fox-like in combination with the trad. jap. style.
Oh, I'm looking forward, seeing thos proper looking kitsune ^^
I became samurai obsessed after watching Gintama, a manga/anime.
It's very funny xD though the joke are very much Japanese pun oriented.
My friend liked it alot, I tried reading some of it, but I guess I was too busy and never had the time to properly read it cause I don't remember it at all. only one chapter which had to do with something about selling drugs and Kenshin guy solving the mystery kind of thing. :'D
Oh, well you might like a manga called Gamaran then. I think it's a little like Rurouni Kenshin.
